The HAM 2021 Most Popular Air Rifle Reviews

Today we’re sharing your list of 2021 most popular air rifle reviews. It’s your list because it’s made-up of the number of views made of each review by HAM readers.

This list of 2021 most popular air rifle reviews is interesting as it combines some “golden oldies” with some new introductions. As for powerplant technology, there’s five PCPs, four springers and one CO2-powered gun in the list.

Here’s the overview. But there are some surprises, as you’ll read below…

1. Benjamin Marauder

After many years on the market, the Marauder was number one choice in your popular air rifle reviews for 2020. It’s done it again for 2021!

The HAM review dates back to 2014 and is one of the earliest we ever produced. But the product’s still the same and still selling well.

The Benjamin Marauder combines most of the features most airgunners want in a PCP air rifle, together with the level of performance and accuracy they need. Crosman has managed to combine all this together at a price that’s not unreasonable.

A huge attraction of the Marauder to many shooters is the degree of built in tuning capability. There’s multiple ways to tune the muzzle velocity, shot count, ideal fill pressure and trigger settings to your own personal preferences. In 2020 the Marauder’s performance potential was revolutionized by Archer Airguns with their simple Power Tune Kit that allows the user to make significant increases in power and shot count.

For its combination of quality, usability, value and performance, the Benjamin Marauder air rifle receives a HAM Gold Award.

2. Gamo Whisper

The Gamo Whisper air rifle is another long-running model that has spawned a huge range of derivatives. As such, it’s an extremely successful airgun.

Sure, the Whisper often sells as a result of Gamo’s relentless and successful marketing. (People always find it easier to buy products they’ve heard of). But HAM’s test gun shot very accurately with a wide range of pellets. It produced those all important muzzle velocities that were within a whisper (groan!) of Gamo’s claims and it’s light and easy to point.

However the HAM Team found that experience and skill is required to shoot it well.

Also budget for a decent replacement scope that gives the gun a chance to demonstrate the accuracy of which it’s capable. This would be an extra cost, but very beneficial, immediate upgrade to an otherwise capable air rifle.

The exact Whisper model tested by HAM is long discontinued, however very similar models continue to be widely available.

3. Ruger Air Hawk

Another long-running favorite, for the money, this is a remarkably good airgun and still deserves its place in HAM’s list of 2021 most popular air rifle reviews.

The Ruger Air Hawk air rifle tested by HAM meets its specs and has acceptable accuracy with most pellets. A high point is the trigger, it’s much better than the ones fitted to many air rifles selling at twice the price.

Yes, there are much better scopes available out there but this can be replaced. Yes the firing cycle is somewhat rough, but this will probably smooth out with use.

But note that skill and experience in shooting spring/piston airguns is required to achieve the accuracy this Ruger can produce.

Learn the “Artillery Hold”, use it consistently and you’ll probably be happy with the Ruger Air Hawk’s performance.

For its combination of quality, usability, value and performance, the Ruger Air Hawk air rifle receives a HAM Gold Award.

4. LCS SK-19

Now we move completely to the other end of the airgun market. The LCS Air Arms SK-19 is the first model produced by this new, North Carolina-based company. Priced at $2,089.00 it definitely falls within the high end of the PCP market, but provides unique features found on few other airguns.

Its claim to fame is the ability to switch from semi-automatic to automatic shooting with the flip of a lever. There’s also a fully shrouded and moderated barrel, picatinny scope rail and extended accessory rail. Optional 480cc or 580cc carbon fiber bottles and aftermarket accessories allow considerable scope for customization.

In fact, this position refers just to the .22 caliber review of this gun. There’s also a very recent HAM review of the .30 caliber model. If we added the views for both reviews together, the SK-19 would be in Number Three position in your list of 2021 most popular air rifle reviews.

That’s a strong indication of how popular this air rifle really is!

5. Air Venturi Avenger

Our Air Venturi Avenger review resulted in a well-earned HAM Gold Award!

There’s no doubt that the Avenger is THE $300 PCP to buy if you’re an experienced, interested airgunner who loves to tinker. It offers a huge raft of benefits including – most importantly – the ability to easily change the regulator setting and thus the shooting characteristics of the gun.

Sure, the Avenger can be shot “as is”, straight from the box. But you’ll be missing so much unless you have a Chronograph, together with the time and discipline to set-up this gun to your liking. If you do, you’ll definitely be rewarded with a huge amount of enjoyment, interest and the potential for outstanding performance!

In fact, this position is for HAM’s summary review of the Avenger. It links to a number of other sub-reviews that included a range of different tune levels. If we added all these separate posts together, the Avenger would easily be the most popular gun on this list!

6. Umarex Origin

The Air Venturi Avenger and Umarex Origin are two new models that look very similar. But there’s many differences between Avenger and Origin, they’re completely different airguns.

Origin owners are likely to be first-time PCP owners – or possibly first-time airgun owners – who need to buy both a PCP air rifle and charging device at the same time. They want to open the box, mount a scope and shoot…

This is why the Origin is bundled with a high pressure hand pump. It’s also why the Origin’s design is focused on making the hand pumping experience as easy and effective as possible.

The Umarex Origin PCP air rifle is a revolutionary product. HAM Publisher Stephen Archer predicts that it will completely transform the “first PCP air rifle” market in a similar manner to the way the Umarex Gauntlet revolutionized the regulated PCP market in the USA.

It’s a clear HAM Gold Award winner for it’s combination of features, performance and price. If you’re looking for your first PCP air rifle, this is it!

Again this position is for HAM’s summary review of the Origin. It links to a number of other sub-reviews that included a range of different tune levels. If we added all these separate posts together, the Origin would be the second most popular gun on this list, right behind the Avenger!

7. Weihrauch HW97K

The Weihrauch HW97K is an outstanding spring/piston air rifle.

If you’re interested in Field Target competition, the HW97K is ready straight out of the box. It’s also a capable hunting air rifle for use on small game.

The HW97K tested by HAM demonstrated great accuracy and consistency. The trigger is excellent and the gun exudes a feeling of quality. There’s no flashy “bells and whistles” with the HW97K, what you get is solid – if understated – value. This air rifle excels in all the areas demanded by knowledgeable airgun shooters.

The fixed barrel and underlever cocking system appeal to many springer shooters, with their promise of accuracy. Here again, the HW97K certainly delivers!

For its combination of quality, usability, value and performance, the Weihrauch HW97K air rifle receives a HAM Gold Award.

8. Diana 34 EMS

For its overall balance of features, performance, flexibility and price, the 34 EMS earns a HAM Gold Award.

It’s a successful new “take” on the classic, spring/piston air rifle. The easy cocking and soft recoil are benefits that will be appreciated by many shooters. The up-gradable design gives the owner a range of options unavailable with any other current breakbarrel model.

It’s notable as the first “system” breakbarrel air rifle. Diana has promised future upgrade products that will allow a change of caliber – from .177 to .22 or vice versa. It will also be possible to substitute a gas ram powerplant for the test gun’s spring/piston system.

9. Diana Stormrider Gen. 2

This is an unusual HAM test review. We’re looking at the Diana Stormrider Gen 2 with an additional barrel band, regulator and pressure gauge. These upgrades are made using official Diana products and are easily undertaken by the owner.

In HAM’s opinion, these additions made a significant improvement to the air rifle. Of course they add cost. However it’s cost that can be spread out over time if required – a big advantage for many folk!

The Diana Stormrider Gen 2 is an accurate PCP air rifle with good power and shot count for its air capacity when regulated. It’s one of the smallest, lightest PCPs available which – in itself – is a big advantage for many purchasers.

It’s a Hard Air Magazine Gold Award winner!

10. Crosman 1077

The Crosman 1077 air rifle has been in continuous production since 1994. That’s right, over 20 years. There have been relatively few changes in the design during that time, too. In itself, that’s an indication of the appeal of the 1077.

And recent years have seen the CO2-powered 1077 become more widely sold in big box sporting goods stores. It seems to be experiencing a renaissance in popularity, as is seen by its inclusion in your list of 2021 most popular air rifle reviews.
